For this project I really wanted to do a tiki mask. I decided to do a tiki mask on a beach. I added the palm tree because it's like a paradise. When you think of tikis and beaches you also think of palm trees. The sun is setting, but the sun is off to the side. I started by outlining where I wanted my horizon line, shoreline, and palm tree. I painted my sand first, then I painted the ocean. The ocean went from dark to light (starting at horizon line), so I made the sand go from light to dark (starting at shoreline). I painted the tiki mask so that it looked like stone. The stone is shades of grey purple and grey blue. I did this so that the purple from the sky and the blue from the ocean is incorporated somewhere else. It draws your eye all over the canvas. I made the teeth of the tiki green to incorporate some of the green from the palm tree. After I painted my tiki and tree, I added some cast shadows. I really like how this turned out. I can tell that my skills are improving little by little.
