This project was taught by Mr. Varneys intern Ms. Markadakis. She has experience making reliquary boxes and thought it would be a good project for us. We could use any materials. There were only a couple of requirements, your box had to represent your object and there was a size requirement. My love for owls inspired my idea for my box. I have a lot of owl jewelry, so that's what I chose for my object. I made an owl and the belly opens and that's where you put the object. I made the frame of the owl out of wire and wrapped it in tape to cover the holes. For the head, I blew up a balloon and paper machéd it. I connected it to the body and paper machéd the whole owl. It was difficult and aggravating because the paper didn't want to stick to the tape, but I got through it with encouraging words from my art teachers and a lot of work. I covered the inside of the owl with a pretty fabric. I also used that fabric for the belly, and ears to tie it in instead of making it random. Then I used pieces of glass and hot glued it to the owl to make it like a mosaic. Over all I think it turned out a lot better than I thought it would.
