For this project we started with three pieces of wood. We had to laminate them together. To do this, we used wood glue to glue them together, then we clamped them together and left them to dry overnight. While we were waiting for them to dry, we had to come up with our ideas. I chose to do a sun and a moon connected. I've always liked it and decided to try it. It was hard to make the block round, the dimensions were a little off for what I wanted to do, but I made it the best I could. Instead of it being a sphere (it would've been too small to carve the faces) I made it more oval shaped, which actually turned out pretty good. I carved the space between the moon and sun so that it looked like one was a little behind the other without actually having to carve too much away. Then I carved the faces. After that I had to cut the rays for the sun from separate pieces of wood. The my teacher, Mr. Varney, drilled holes into the sun so I could attach them. I put wood glue in the holes then let it dry overnight. Then I painted the sun a base coat of yellow and the moon a base coat of very light white blue. It was a nice contrast to each other. Then I went back and painted the details. I looked at a picture while I painted as a reference to make sure I got the colors right.
