Instead of using a specific artist for this mask project, we looked at different genres for our inspiration. We were not allowed to directly copy the picture, we had to make it our own. I decided to use aspects from different genres to make my mask. I chose to do a mask wearing a mask. The mask that the mask is wearing is a masquerade mask, which kinda brings an american aspect to the mask. The lips were inspired by the chinese masks I've seen. They're really small. Lastly I was inspired by the African masks to add feathers to my mask. I had to roll out a slab, then I draped it over a mask so that it could form to that shape. While it was setting I made the masquerade mask and attached it onto the face. Then I made the lips and attached them. After that I cut the eyes out and made a design into the masquerade mask by pressing a star stamp into it to create a texture, I also made a swirly kind of design on top. When I selectively glazed it, I only glazed the masquerade mask and the lips. Then it was pit fired.
